Recording profiles

A recording profile determines how often Geo Tracker requests location updates, which locations it keeps, and when it starts a new track segment. The built-in profiles choose these settings for you; the Custom profile lets you adjust them individually.

How often Geo Tracker requests a new location from the GPS device. A short interval, such as 1 second, produces a more detailed track. A longer interval records fewer points and can reduce battery usage, but it may miss detail between updates. The selected value is a requested interval, so the actual timing can also depend on the device and GPS conditions.

The maximum estimated horizontal error allowed for a location. A lower value is stricter. For example, with a setting of 50 meters, a location reporting an accuracy of 50 meters or better can be accepted, while a less accurate location is ignored. This setting filters locations; it does not make the device’s GPS hardware more accurate.

The minimum distance required between consecutive recorded points. It is designed to filter out GPS noise when recording at the standard 1-second frequency. If a new location is closer to the previous recorded point than this value, it is normally skipped. For example, with a minimum distance of 100 meters, locations less than 100 meters from the previous recorded point are filtered out.

The maximum distance allowed between consecutive points in one track segment. If the distance is greater, Geo Tracker starts a new segment instead of drawing a continuous line across the gap. For example, with a 5-minute frequency and a maximum distance of 1 km, travelling more than 1 km between updates creates a segment break. For low-frequency recording, set Max distance to Not specified to avoid accidental breaks.

Applies stricter checks and ignores locations that do not include speed, bearing, or altitude data. This can discard otherwise usable locations, so enable it only when you specifically need stricter filtering.
